Queens Birthday

Once again Alice non-organised another great Queens birthday Caving weekend. And the weather was great, too - I'm not sure how Alice organises that - perhaps she does a rain dance in Christchurch before she leaves to attract the rain over here? I won't go into a list of all the caves that were visited (in some cases nearly not visited, but that is someone else's story). On Saturday I took a small (14) group of mainly Nelson cavers on the Cairns Catacombs - Kubla Khan through trip. You'd think that having helped explore and survey it, and having been through only a few weeks ago, I'd know the way... but it doesn't work like that. Anyway, despite the size of the party, and my misguidance, we got through with minimal hold ups, and Alex even found a new exit near the tomo entrance. Ah, yes, we did have a slight problem at the tomo exit, with most of the party carrying on into Xanadu, and the rest, leader included, carrying on to the car park. Oops. Sunday included a tourist trip through the Metro, where we hardly got lost at all, and while passing the time during a photo shoot, Yann Pierre showed his skills by finding a (moa?) bone a few cm from the tourist track. See if you can find it next trip. (Hint, it's between the Triclops and main entrances) Queens Birthday at Charleston is a great weekend for meeting other cavers, sharing ideas, feijoas, knowledge, jokes, and caving stories. And caving. Highly recommended ***** Roll on QBW 2010. (20th anniversary meet!)
